Home Learning – Year 1 - Autumn Term First Half 2018

Spelling and Times Tables

Your child will have a spelling test every week. Spellings will be given every Friday and will be tested the following Thursday.  This half-term the children will be learning the ten times table and I will let you know the dates when there will be a times table test.

Here are some suggestions to help your child learn their spellings:

The following is a list of the spellings that we will be working on this half term. Some spellings are ‘regular’ and easier to remember whilst others are ‘tricky’ and more difficult to remember.  These spellings cover ‘age expectations’.  It is expected that confident spellers will move through this list steadily, whilst less confident spellers will have an opportunity to revise misspelt words and therefore move through the list more slowly.

Maths Homework Online – IXL

Children will complete their maths homework using the school home learning and school assessment tool, IXL. Your child’s log-in details are attached. A list of IXL activities for this half term is attached.

Phonics

I attach a phonics sheet for your child to complete. Look at each picture and tell your child the word (they will be listed overleaf).  Ask your child to sound out the word.  Then ask them to say what the phonemes are, eg w-ai-t.  Next tell your child to write each letter/s on the lines below.  Note, some phonemes have 2 letters (ai, ay) and some sounds are split eg g-a-te.

Please return the homework folder each week no later than the following Wednesday.
