Reading for Pleasure

At Christ Church we love reading! A love of books and reading for pleasure is so important. It's not just about learning to read and write, there are so many benefits; increased confidence and self-esteem, greater empathy, improved emotional well-being to name but a few. Evidence also shows that children who read for pleasure make more progress in other areas of the curriculum than children who read very little.

Book Week 2023 - Reading for Pleasure

Our focus for the week was 'Reading for Pleasure'. Here are some pictures of us doing just that!

We read books, share stories and poems and talk about what we are reading every day in school. We encourage all children, staff and parents to read for pleasure at home too.

Here are some ideas to help...

Christ Church are working with LoveReading4Kids. Here you can find a vast range of wonderful books. Through them we have created recommended reading lists for your child's age group, so if you are looking for inspiration when buying books or visiting the library, have a look.

LoveReading4Kids also provides funding for schools, so if you are buying books online, please consider buying through them. School will get 25% of your purchase back to spend on books, which will go towards adding to our class libraries for the children to enjoy.
